The Lexum network of eye clinics has a unique position as one of the largest providers of ophthalmic care on the Czech market. It deals with all segments of ophthalmology – treatment of cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, retinal and vitreous surgery, corneal transplantation, refractive and laser surgery, glaucoma treatment, squint, plastic surgery and others.

The Lexum Eye Clinic Data Warehouse demonstrates the ease with which even small and medium-sized businesses can create a hybrid solution combining an existing ERP system with the elasticity of cloud-based database, analytics and reporting services. In this way, Lexum utilizes state-of-the-art technologies that were only available to large companies just a few years ago and associated with far higher costs.

The processes that regularly retrieve and transform data from the main data sources – the on-premise ERP Navision and the clinical information system – are managed by the cloud-based ETL service Data Factory . Data is securely transferred to cloud storage and further transformed and stored in an SQL database. As a final step, the data models are rebuilt in Power BI.

The data warehouse provides users with models containing management scorecards at the level of analytical accounts as well as clinical data, such as the most frequently performed operations. These data are used by the finance and controlling department, but also by the staff of individual clinics. They access Power BI reports, but also use Excel for ad-hoc analysis over a single data model.
Users can work from anywhere, not only geographically, but also from many tools – a mobile phone, a reporting portal, a popular company app, as well as from Teams Communication with up-to-date, accurate and trustworthy information.
